Guess what? Right now, you have the ability to do something extraordinary that could, indirectly, save people’s lives and quicken the end of the obesity epidemic.

According to Adele Hite’s excellent Eathropology blog, Nina Teicholz’s new book, The Big Fat Surprise — which I reviewed in depth here — is on the verge of making the New York Times bestseller list. If this happens, the results could be epic. Thousands of people will finally be exposed to the truth about our woeful dietary guidelines. This moment could hasten the end of the reign of the low fat, high sugar diet and give America (and the world) its health and energy back.

Need more convincing that this book is worth buying? Check out these reviews of The Big Fat Surprise:

Adele Hite eloquently explains what’s at stake here:

“This is not just about science, but about a world view that has placed the health concerns of adult (mostly white) males above those of women and children. This is about civil rights. Our current dietary recommendations are based on moldy datasets involving a particularly narrow demographic and applied to all Americans, regardless of age, race, gender, or cultural heritage. As if this is not bad enough, these same policies, which have remained virtually unchanged for 35 years, have failed–miserably–to improve the health of Americans of any demographic. This is a travesty of public health, and we should all be horrified and outraged… We need to put this book on the New York Times bestsellers list and keep it there until Teicholz is on Oprah and Oz and The View and 60 minutes and Rachael Ray and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. We need to get this party started and keep it going. You certainly don’t have to agree with all she says to appreciate that the conversation needs to continue.”

So what are you waiting for? If you haven’t gotten your copy, do it now. Even if you have ordered the book, get other people who are on the fence to get a copy… or just buy an extra copy for your doctor or close friend.

Remember Margaret Mead’s famous quote: “Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” I know that quote is overused, but that’s because it’s true.

Nina only needs a few hundred sales by tomorrow evening. Make it happen, so that a country that’s literally starving to know the truth can finally sate its appetite.
